Giveaway and Author Chat with Gladys Quintal!!

by Addicted to Books Book Reviews on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 9:34am ·

Laura: Thank you Gladys Quintal for allowing me to interview you today.

Laura: What inspired you to write?
Gladys: I have always loved writing stories, for as long as I can remember, but never actually thought I could write a book. I decided to write a journal about my life one day and it quickly turned into a book. After that, I thought I would try my hand at fiction. The rest they say is history!
Laura: What authors do you read?

Gladys: Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine, Victoria Holt, James Herbert, Jeff Lindsay, Trevor Munson and recently, E.L James

Laura: What type of books do you read?

Gladys: I like a lot of different genres, but my favourite one to read is historical fiction, followed closely by paranormal and horror.

Laura: Could you tell us about yourself and your writing?

Gladys: I am originally from NZ, but have lived in Western Australia now for 5years. I have 4 children – 2 young ones at home (6years and 18 months) and I try to write around them! It is not easy and a lot of my writing gets done late at night, when the kids are in bed and the house is quiet.
Laura: How did you come up with The Dream Series?

Gladys: I dreamt about my partner Barry before I ever met him. For years, I would dream about this dark haired man – but I had no idea if he was real or not. I know now that he was very real. I have also had a love affair with vampires and the paranormal practically my whole life, so I decided to incorporate the two. Plus, a lot of scenes in my books are taken straight out of my own life.

Laura: How would you describe The Dream Series?

Gladys: It is a vampire/human love story – but not for the faint hearted! I love horror and so have aspects of it throughout all my books. The first book deals with the subjects of child abuse, rape and murder. My hero is also a villain – in the sense that he kills ‘bad men’ and enjoys tearing these criminals limb from limb.

Laura: Are your characters inspired by anyone you know?

Gladys: Most of them are, yes. Alexi is inspired by Alex O’Loughlin’s character of Mick St John in the TV show Moonlight. Not that he is like him as such, but in my mind he looks like him. Cassie is based on me, although as the series progresses, she becomes less and less like me. Hayley, Moyra and Nana are all based on good friends of mine and Chloe (the young vamp that turns Alexi) is modeled on my daughter Emma and she is actually the cover model for my 2nd book in the series.
Laura: What’s your latest book about?

Gladys: The latest book is The Chosen One and it is book 3 in The Dream Series. It focuses on Cassie’s baby, A.J. I can’t give too much away, but it carries on immediately after book 2 finishes and book 2 ends on a big cliffhanger!
Laura: When does it get released?

Gladys: It was released in June and is doing very well so far. I personally think it is the best one.
Laura: What future works are you working on?

Gladys: I am working on my autobiography, the first book I wrote and hope to release that at the end of the year. I also have 2 more books planned for The Dream Series. One a spinoff type novella centering around Elizabeth and then another focusing on A.J. as he grows up.
Laura: What other books do you have out?

Gladys: I only have the 3 books in The Dream Series out at the moment: The Man of My Dreams, Be Careful What You Wish For and The Chosen One.
Laura: How do you come up with the plots? Do they write themselves, do you use an outline? How do you work on the plots?

Gladys: A lot of my material comes from dreams or everyday life. I usually see it playing out in my head, like watching a movie and I have to try and write it down as I am seeing it. I can see the beginning and sometimes the ending, but usually have no idea what is going to happen until I start to write – so it is no use asking me for spoilers as I am just as much in the dark as anyone else!
Laura: Anything else you would like to share?

Gladys: I would really like to say thank you for all the support I have received. I had no idea going into this that people would want to buy my books, let alone be willing to help promote them. There are a lot of wonderful book pages and fellow authors on Facebook, Twitter etc that are more than willing to help out. Without them, I think I would be lost!
Laura: Thank you for your time in letting me to interview you.

Gladys: Thank you for having me J

An Interview with Gladys Quintal

Gladys Quintal
The Wizard contacted New Zealand born paranormalist Gladys Quintal to discuss the paranormal, erotic and horror scene down under. Here's what Gladys had to say on the Wizphone, with a 13 hour time delay!

UK readers and Wizardwatchers won't be familiar with the name Gladys Quintal. Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am originally from New Zealand, but have lived in Western Australia for 5years now. I am a stay at home mum of 4kids and try to fit in my writing around them.

I love vampires and practically anything paranormal and have wanted to write books for as long as I can remember.

Is there an Indielit scene in the Antipodes? Who are the names we should be looking out for and what are the hot genres?

There is an Indie community on Facebook with a lot of wonderful, talented writers. We all try to help each other out whenever we can, which is really nice. It is not like we are competing against each other, but instead members of the same family.

Names you should be watching out for, to name just a few: Emily Hill, Clayton Zane, Jennifer Malone Wright, Rue Volley, Willow Cross, K. B. Miller, J. H. Glaze, Nathan Squiers, Stacey Rourke, Karen Nichols, Tamela Quijas, Sabine Atkins, Kallypso Masters...... I could go on and on and on, there really is just a world of talent out there!

Most of my friends write in the Paranormal and Horror genres like I do, but are more YA - although a couple write erotica or BDSM. So really quite a diverse group.

Tell us about your current work.

I recently released book 3 in The Dream Series: The Chosen One - which has been doing quite well.

The Dream Series

At the moment, I have actually gone back to the very first book I ever wrote - my autobiography. It needs an awful lot of work to get it into shape and I have kind of been a bit lazy with it. I plan to realease it later in the year.

My plan then is to write another non-fiction book about my struggles with health issues and women having problems getting diagnosed with endocrine disorders. After that, I have 2 more books planned for The Dream Series.

What genre do you write in? Who are your influences?

I write Paranormal/Horror with a touch of romance. My writing influences include: Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine, Victoria Holt, James Herbert, Jeff Lindsay, Trevor Munson, Anne Rice and recently E.L. James.....

Classic New English Library James

What's a typical day in the life of Gladys Quintal?

My life is pretty much Ground Hog Day!!!!! I get up, get the boy ready for school while getting his baby sister dressed and fed to take with us. Get home from dropping Jonny at school, feed the animals, put Bella down for a nap, do a bit of housework and then a bit of facebook and checking emails, attempt to write something while she is asleep - which if I am really lucky will be at least 2hours!

Busy Family Life as depicted by Monty Python

Once she wakes up it is lunch, a bit more housework, pick Jonny up from school, get dinner on, baths organised and kids ready for bed...... 7pm both kids are in bed and I can let out a big sigh! Then it is a mixture of promoting books and writing until the early hours, shower, bed and then start all over again in the morning. I really look forward to Fridays :)

Evil British Bush Policemen, fresh from capturing Ned Kelly, capture you too and clap you in irons in a remote jailhouse. However, old Christie is a kindly jailer of liberal persuasion and allows you three books, two CD's and one DVD to pass the time. What would you ask for?

Outlander.

CD's : Melissa Etheridge and Purple Rain

DVD: "Moonlight"

There's a knock on the door. A writer and a musician stand there with twenty four cans of beer and a bag of honey roast peanuts. In your ideal world, who would you like them to be?

Elvis.

What do your fans have to look forward to in 2013?

More of The Dream Series. I am planning a bit of a spinoff novella, or companion novella, centuring around Elizabeth - so watch out for that my horror lovers. It will be set in the time after she dies in the walled up room in her castle, while she is waiting for The Chosen One to be born.......

Thanks very much for speaking to us, Gladys.

You're welcome.

Jeanette Hornby Books: Welcome Author Gladys Quintal

Welcome Author Gladys Quintal

Bio
I have loved vampires and the paranormal for as long as I can remember and always wanted to write a book or three on the subject. My two favourite shows are Moonlight and Dexter - Mick St John being my favourite vampire and Dexter being everyone's favourite serial killer. I found a lot of inspiration from these two shows, inventing my own vampire vigilante that kills 'bad men' while saving women from rapists and children molesters.

A lot of what I write about comes from my own personal experiences and my desire when I was younger for a hero to swoop in and take me away. Unfortunately, I never found my guardian angel and so I created Alexi, a vampire/serial killer hybrid, as the hero of my books. My stories come mostly from inside my head, real life happenings or dream and visions. A lot of my characters are actually based on friends of mine: Hayley, Nana and Moyra are all real people, Chloe is based on my daughter Emma and Cassie is me - in the beginning anyway. She becomes less like me as the stories progress

Books
I've written three books in The Dream Series so far: The Man of My Dreams, Be Careful What You Wish For and The Chosen One. They centre around Cassie and Alexi and their forbidden love, trying to live a normal life in a not so normal world. Vampires in my books are cursed, only being seen as human in the mortal subconscious until they find a human to love them unconditionally. Once that happens, they are free to walk amongst us and look as we do. They still need blood to survive and Alexi has found the perfect way to satisfy his needs, in the process of ridding the streets of evil.

Our interview with Gladys Quintal

Q: Who or what inspired you to become an author?
A: I have always loved to write - since I was a child. Always wanting to write a book, but just never thinking I would be able to. At school, I was always writing stories and reading them out to the class. Somehow, I never felt self-conscious about my masterpieces as they always seemed to love them. Sometimes I think something just exists inside you and it is something you have to do.
Q: What was the turning point in your life when you decided to start writing?
A: I started to write a type of journal about things that happened in my childhood, almost as a type of therapy to get it out. Once I started, I couldn't stop and before I knew it, I had written nearly 40,000 words. I then realised that I did have it in me and decided to try my hand at some of the stories floating around inside my head.
Q: What is or are the genres of your book or books?
A: Paranormal Romance with a side order of Horror :)
Q: What made you decide to write in your particular genre?
A: I have had a love affair with vampires and the paranormal for as long as I can remember and always wanted to build a book around these creatures. Also, growing up I always wanted someone to come and save me but they never did. I decided to create my own hero/vigilante in the image of the rescuer I would want for myself.
Q: Who is your favorite author, and how did they inspire you to write?
A: I actually have a few. Diana Gabaldon, if I had to pick one. Her books really drew me in and the love story between Jamie and Claire, made me want to find my own Jamie Fraser. James Herbert's book The Fog, was the first horror book I read and it got me hooked on horror at the age of 14. He is an amazing writer.
Q: When you write do you take notes, organize your characters and plot, or you write freely as you go?
A: I don't take notes as such, but if an idea pops into my head when I am out or away from my computer, I will try and put a note into my phone or write it somewhere so as not to forget it. Usually, my stories come from my dreams, everyday experiences or visions I have.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
A: It is hard to explain, but the stories seem to appear in my head as if I am watching a movie - or appear in my dreams. I have no idea where they come from! Some are based on things that have actually happened to me etc, but most are pure fiction.
Q: Do you write about your personal life experiences in your stories?
A: I do, especially in the first book. Cassie is based on me, although she becomes less and less like me as the stories unfold.
Q: Who is your favorite character in your book? Why?
A: It is a toss up between Elizabeth and Sebastian. I tend to like the evil characters :)
Q: What is your favorite scene in your story?
A: I don't want to give away spoilers, but I would have to say I love it when Alexi is dishing out his idea of justice.
Q: Do you write about your personal experiences in your books?
A: I do take quite a bit from my own experiences or events that happen around me. I think it is easier writing about something you actually know something about.
Q: Are the characters in your story based on people you know?
A: Actually, they are. Cassie was based on me - although, not so much now. Hayley, Moyra and Nana are all friends of mine and Chloe is based on my daughter Emma.
Q: Is there any part in writing you don’t like?
A: I wish I could just write as it comes out of my head and not have to go back and make it make sense to everyone else!
Q: Do you have any online sites where people can read more about your books?
A: I have a blog: The Dream Series http://thedreamseries-gladysquintal.blogpsot.com/
Q: Do you have any books in the works?
A: I have actually gone back to my very first book (my autobiography) and am looking at getting it edited and published sometime later in the year.
Q: When you read, what is your favorite genre?
A: My favourite genre to read is romance, usually historical but any good love story will tug at my heart strings. I loved reading Victoria Holt growing up. The young woman, usually a governess, that is swept off her feet by some arrogant Count.....
Q: Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I don't have a lot of free time and if I do it is usually spent trying to do housework. I have 2 young kids at home and a hubby that works a lot, so my time is pretty much taken up. I write when I get a chance, normally late at night or I like to catch up with online friends or watch TV.
Q: If you would have time travel abilities and could meet anyone from any time, who would you like to meet?
A: That is such a tough question! I would have loved to have met Elvis Presley or even to be able to go back and spy on people from history to see what they were really like - like Elizabeth Bathory or Vlad.....

INDIE AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

http://ow.ly/cnRnX

Indie Author Spotlight: Gladys Quintal
Author Gladys QuintalNew Zealand’s Gladys Quintal is our Indie Author Spotlight today. IABR visits with Quintal as she tells us a bit about herself, her work, her favorite authors, and her creative process.
Find Gladys on her website, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, GoodReads and Amazon (author page).
Her books are available for purchase through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Book Depository.
Let’s take a look at what Gladys has to say!

In which genre do you write? Paranormal Romance.
Tell us about your creative process. Most of my ideas come from dreams, visions or real life experiences.
The Man of My Dreams by Gladys Quintal

What was your first (published or unpublished) work? My autobiography (as yet unpublished). I started it as a journal, more for therapy than anything else and it quickly turned into a book. Then I thought I would try my hand at fiction and after watching the TV show Moonlight and having always loved vampires, I was inspired to write my first paranormal romance novel: The Man of My Dreams.
Which of your works is your favorite? Why? My latest book: The Chosen One is my favourite so far as I feel my writing style has improved with each book. I also really love the cover!
Tell us about your latest, or current, work. I have backtracked a little after finishing The Chosen One and have got back to working on my autobiography. I am planning on releasing it at the end of this year, all things going to plan.
What inspires you creatively? Why? Real life plays a big part in my stories, but of course there are no vampires in real life. I have a lot of dreams and ideas that just pop into my head – kind of like watching a movie and I have to try and get it down on paper as it plays out in my head. I also get inspired from TV shows (like Moonlight and Dexter).
Be Careful What You Wish For by Gladys Quintal

Who are your favorite authors? Why? Diana Gabaldon is my favourite author. She writes historical romance and I just found myself totally engrossed in the world she created and fell in love with her characters, especially Jamie Fraser! James Herbert was one of the first authors I became addicted to – I read his book The Fog when I was just 14 and was very quickly hooked. I had to get every book of his I could find and read it. That is pretty much when my obsession with books began, although since early childhood you could always find me with my nose in a book. Angel of Vengeance by Trevor Munson was the book that inspired the TV show Moonlight and anyone that knows me, knows how much that show means to me.
What is your favorite book (that you have not written yourself)? Why? That is a tough question as I love so many different books for different reasons – I would have to say Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. It is the first book centred around a romance that I found totally believable and made me want to find my very own Jamie. I could relate so easily to Claire and could picture everything playing out in my head. I totally lost myself in that book and that is the kind of author I would like to be.
In the spirit of James Lipton, Bernard Pivot, and Proust:
>The Chosen One by Gladys Quintal

What is your favorite word? Love.
What is your least favorite word? Discrimination.
What turns you on? Sexy Vampires, well written love scenes, my hubby :) .
What turns you off? Crass sex scenes, unrealistic (as in kissing first thing in the morning etc), bad hygiene!
What sound do you love? Children laughing.
What sound do you hate? Children crying cos they are in pain.
What is your favorite curse word? The one that starts with F. :)
What profession other than that of a writer/author would you like to attempt? I would love to be a psychic but am terrified of ghosts!
What profession would not like to do? Anything that involves cleaning!
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? Welcome :)
Thank you for joining us on Indie Author Book Reviews today, Gladys! It was a pleasure getting to know you better!

COVER STORY

Be Careful What You Wish For by Gladys Quintal

Today’s Cover Story is a case of the model for the character seeming to be not right for the image of the character but then turning out to be perfect after all. In addition it’s...
a case of family turning out to be just what you need. I’ll let Gladys tell you the story of her cover:

‘The book is Be Careful What You Wish For and the character I chose for the cover is Chloe. Chloe is based on my daughter Emma. I introduced her in my first book (The Man of my Dreams) as the young vampire that "accidentally" turns Alexi. Chloe was turned at 17 (We don't find out much about her until the 2nd book though) and was literally starving when she stumbled across Alexi and unintentionally drains his blood, panics and feeds him her own to try and correct her mistake.

I used the fact that Emma does a bit of modelling and has a lot of health issues that mar her everyday life and that we have not had a diagnosis to start any kind of treatment as yet. It has been years and still we do not know why she gets so sick all the time.

Emma, however, is a blue eyed, petite, blond and that didn't really fit in with my plans for Chloe. I wanted her to be dark and brooding, so the similarites stopped there. But when Emma did this photo shoot as Miss Haversham in the Twisted Weddings shoot, I fell in love with the Goth look immediately and said "that is my Chloe!"

I approached the photographer (Gina Smyth

https://www.facebook.com/GinaSmythPhotography ) and she was more than happy to let me use the photo for my book cover.”

Bio:
I love everything Paranormal, especially Vampires and after seeing the TV show Moonlight, I was inspired to write my first novel “The Man of my Dreams.” I am a big fan of Alex O’loughlin who was the lead on Moonlight and also love the concept behind Dexter, so my hero is kind of Mick St John meets Dexter! I previously wrote an autobiography but I have not published that one as yet.
Most of my ideas come from dreams, personal experience or the voices in my head that never seem to let up. Most of my characters are based on real people. My inspiration for Alexi comes from Alex O’loughlin who is my all time favourite actor. Cassie was loosely based on myself but as time has gone on she is less like me. Nana, Moyra and Hayley are all based on friends of mine and Chloe is my daughter Emma.
I am a stay at home mum and have 4 children. I write every chance I get, whenever the kids let me. My passion is and always has been writing. My sequel “Be Careful What You Wish For” is now available and the third book in the series “The Chosen One” should be available later in the year.
These characters are very close to my heart and I hope you will come to love them as much as I have.
*************

We also had a few questions for this Author check them out:

1.Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a stay at home mum of 4 kids, although 2 are older and have left home. I love Vampires – have ever since I was a little girland have always wanted to write a book about paranormal romance. The first book I wrote was an autobiography that I haven’t published yet, although I am thinking about publishing it next year.
2.What was your inspiration for the series?
My inspiration for Alexi was Alex O’loughlin’s character of Mick St John on the show Moonlight. I loved that show, and that is how I always imagined Vampires to look – kind of sexy/scary, not ugly scary like in Buffy. I have a lot of dreams and voices inside my head that give me ideas for stories as well. A lot of my characters are based on real people. Cassie is based on me – my close friends and family have picked up on the real aspects of my books. Hayley, Moyra and Nana are all friends of mine and Chloe is my daughter Emma (who is on the cover of my 2nd book).
3.can you share a little of your current work with us?
I am currently working on #3 in The Dream Series called ”The Chosen One.” It carries on from where the second book finishes. Without giving too much away about the ending of Be Careful What You Wish For, it tells what happens after the cliffhanger. I am hoping to release it by the end of next month (fingers crossed!)
4.If you had some advice to give new writes what would you say?
I am a new writer! I would tell them not to get too upset with bad reviews and not to take bad feedback to heart. Also get an editor – it may seem like an unnecessary expense, but believe me it is necessary! A cover artist is a good idea too and I am currently working with one to re”vamp” my covers. But in the end you are writing for you and your fans. If you are happy with what you have written then that is all that really matters.
5.Whats you most memorable story?
That I have read? That is a tough one because I have so many that I love. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a stick out, I love Historical Romance and Jamie Fraser sounds like every woman’s dream man. The Fog by James Herbert started my obsession with horror books and the of course there is Angel of Vengeance by Trevor O. Munson that became Moonlight and started my love affair with Mick St John…..
From Author:)
I would just like to thank the wonderful people who have helped to spread the word about my books and for the positive feedback I have received and the new friends I have made – both with fellow authors and the wonderful book pages. Without you all behind me and helping and supporting me, I am sure I would have been lost xx

Interview with Gladys Quintal

by Heather's Book Reviews on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 4:22pm
1. Tell us a little about you.

I am originally from New Zealand but moved to Perth, Australia 4years ago in search of a better life and found it! I am a stay at home mum with 4 kids, although 2 of them are older and have left home. I have a 6year old and 8 month old baby at home.

2. Do you use a pen name?

No, I write under my real name.

3. How long have you wanted to be an author?

As long as I can remember. I have memories of being in primary school and teachers telling me that this story has to be short - not a book Gladys! I used to start writing and just couldn't seem to stop. I remember writing stories for my classmates and the teacher would get me to read it out to the class, I loved the reaction I got and never felt self conscious. Plus I always dream and seem to have stories in my head just waiting to come out!

4. How did you get started?

To cut a long story short, I had a really bad childhood and I ended up seeking therapy at the age of 26, when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter. (Did I mention I am 45?) Anyway, she suggested that to help with the nightmares etc, I should find my creative outlet. I was pretty devastated with that as thought I didn't have a creative bone in my body and assumed she meant painting or craft of some sort. A little while later the idea of writing came to me and I decided to write an autobiography about what had happened to me to help me to get over it. Nothing like getting it all out! So I did and that was the first book I wrote, except I haven't published that one yet. I am still waiting to see how that particular saga ends. After that, I was hooked and decided to try my hand at fiction - especially Vampires as they are my passion.

5. What was the hardest part?

The hardest part was finding the time to write! I could literally sit here and write all day everyday if I could! But I now have a baby to take care of when Jonny is at school, so writing during the day doesn't happen a lot these days. The other hard part I found was editing and formatting - yuk! It has been a long time since I did anything like that and I didn't have MS Word in those days so it has been a real learning curve for me.

6. What is the name of your current book? (the one you are promoting now)

It is called "The Man of my Dreams."

7. Tell us a little about it?

It is about a young girl that loses her parents at a young age and starts getting visits from a dark haired man in her dreams. At first it starts out as just innocent comforting but after a while he becomes her lover and she is desperate to find out if he is real or a figment of her imagination. In the background there is a serial killer vigilante killing rapists and child molestors.........

8. Where did the idea for this story come from?

Anyone that knows me personally knows that Cassie is essentially me. A lot of her experiences are taken from my own life. I used to dream about a dark haired man for years and decided I would base my story around him, except add Vampires into the mix! As to where the rest of it comes from? I have been asked that a lot and I have no idea! It just appears in my head and I have to write it down.

9. What can we expect from you in the future?

I am currenty writing the sequel which I have titled "Be Careful What You Wish For." It carries on from "The Man of my Dreams" and hopefully answers a few unanswered questions. And I am planning on publishing my autobiography next year. After that who knows, but I will continue to write.

10. What do you do to help you write?

Sleep would be nice! Never seem to get enough of that these days. I like a nice quiet room so once the kids are in bed, I turn the TV off and make myself a caramel latte ( which I am hopelessly addicted to!) and if I have chocolate in the house well of course that always helps too!

11. Who is your favorite author?

That is a toughie - I actually have a few for different reasons. James Herbert is my favourite horror writer. I read "The Fog" at the age of 14 and became obsessed - I have a very obsessive personality when it comes to things that I like! I bought every book of his I could get my hands on and he has been a big inspiration for me.

Then there is Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine and Victoria Holt - the way they write romance mixed in with a touch of the supernatural (any woman that has read Diana's Outlander series is in love with Jamie Fraser!) or in Victoria's case the lowly peasant gaining the love of an aristocrat, made me want to find the man of my dreams!

Trevor Munson wrote "Angel of Vengeance" which became the TV show Moonlight. I loved Moonlight, still do and it inspired me to write about Vampires. In my head my Hero/Villian looks like Alex O'Loughlin (who by the way I am also obsessed with!)

Jeff Lindsay and Dexter, well another one of my obsessions. Dexter is a serial killer who only kills "bad men" - see the connection?

12. What are you currently reading?

I am trying to read The Blood of the Beast by Tamela Quijas, a lovely friend of mine. So far I am loving it but I have to juggle between reading time and writing time and at the moment writing is winning out! I am also reading another dear friend of mine's book Varangian: The Stone of Babylon by Sabine Atkins.

13. Anything you'd like to say to your fans?

I only have a handful! I would like to say thank you for believing in me and supporting me. I actually dedicated my book to the most important people in my life.

Interview/Giveaway: Gladys Quintal

http://everythingandnothing-jex.blogspot.com/2012/01/interviewgiveaway-gladys-quintal.html

Gladys Quintal, author of The Man of My Dreams, has stopped by the blog today for an interview about her work. Make her feel all warm and welcome!

~ About the Author ~
Gladys Quintal
I love everything paranormal - especially Vampires and after watching the TV show Moonlight, I was inspired to write my first Vampire Romance novel (The Man of my Dreams). Writing has been a passion for me since childhood and I hope you will enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy bringing them to you.

Born in NZ but moved to sunny Perth, Australia in 2007 and never looked back. Bit of a contrast to the small town of Ohakune where I lived for around 16years beforehand. Freezing is an understatement in the winter but I have to admit I do miss the snow!

I grew up in a small town called Patea and for me I think the high school had some of the best teachers in the world. I just had a hunger to learn and still do!

Mother of 4 who writes when she gets a spare sec - usually late at night!!!
I recently finished my second novel, the sequel (Be Careful What You Wish For) and am excited about that being released Feb 1st 2012.

~ Interview ~

What inspired your latest book?

I am a big fan of the Vampire genre and have always watched movies and read books about the paranormal. I heard a voice on tv once that caught my attention and when I turned to look, noticed it was a new Vampire PI show called "Moonlight." I was totally hooked after that and obsessed with Alex O'loughlin! His character of Mick St John inspired me to write this book.

Any other books in the works? Future projects?

I am currently working on the sequel called "Be Careful What You Wish For." I have images and stories totally bombarding my head for this book but haven't got the uninterrupted time I need to write it, so I am taking down notes on my laptop and on in my Iphone until I can! So far I have written about 20,000 words.

Why did you choose the tittle? Any significance?
The main character "Cassie" dreams about a dark haired man from her early teens and I also used to dream about about a dark haired man for years, so I thought the title was fitting!

What book character would you say is most like you?

Cassie is pretty much me. A lot of her experiences are taken right out of my own life. Of course I never had any Vampires in my life (I wish!) and a few other things never happened (that I cannot really mention without adding spoilers)

If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?

Well I already have a signed copy of "Angel of Vengeance" the book that inspired the TV show Moonlight which in turn inspired me! Others? Well that is a toughie as I love so many. James Herbert's "The Fog", Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander", Barbara Erskines' "Lady of Hay".........

What inspired you to want to become a writer?

I have always loved writing ever since I was little, but I never thought I would be able to actually write a book. The first book I wrote was an autobiography which I haven't published yet. After that I wanted to try my hand at fiction and was so excited that once I started I couldn't stop! I love writing, especially when it comes to Vampires!

How do you react to a bad review?

Honestly, not very well! It is so hard putting yourself out there for the whole world to see and when people don't like your work, it is like they don't like you! Some reviewers can be very cruel too and forget that the author is actually a living, breathing, human being with feelings! It knocks your confidence a bit, but if it is really what you want to do you just have to pick yourself up and get on with proving them wrong!

What do you do in your free time?

I don't understand - what is this "free time" thing you speak of? I am a stay at home mum with 2 kids at home (2 older that have left home), a 6year old and a 9month old baby. If I have any time it is usually late at night and then I write!

If you weren’t a writer, what would your profession be?

I would like to make writing my profession! I would be what I am already - a mum:) When I was little I always wanted to be a nurse, but I guess that wasn't meant to be.

If you won a million dollars, what’s the first thing you would buy?

I think I would like to "buy" a cleaner! Once my son is at school and my baby is having a nap, cleaning takes up way too much of the time I could be using to write! Other than that, probably writing and editing aids for my computer or even a new computer! Pay off the mortgage etc, there isn't really a lot of things I want, I think I am pretty lucky with what I have already:)

Author Bio:

I love everything Paranormal, especially Vampires and after seeing the TV show Moonlight, I was inspired to write my first novel “The Man of my Dreams”. I am a big fan of Alex O’loughlin who was the lead on Moonlight and also love the concept behind Dexter, so my hero is kind of Mick St John meets Dexter!
I am now a stay at home mum of 4 but write every chance I get, whenever the kids let me. My passion is and always has been writing. My sequel “Be Careful What You Wish For” is now in the editing stage and due to be released Feb 1st 2012.
These characters are very close to my heart and I hope you will come to love them as much as I have.

Author Interview:

1.Can you recommend an editor for other authors who are thinking about independent self-publishing?

Yes I can. Her name is Melanie Saxton (melaniesaxtononline.com)and I have loved working with her. I actually met her on Facebook and we struck up a conversation on another book site and went from there. Some things just happen for a reason. She listens to what you want and works with you without taking over. It has been a very positive experience for me and I highly recommend her.

2. What sparked the idea for this book?

A couple of things. I dreamt about a dark haired man for years and actually ended up with my dream man 10years ago, which makes this story very close to my own heart. The other thing was the TV show Moonlight. I totally adored that show and was devastated when it ended. It inspired me to want to start writing again.

3. How did you name your characters and are they named after someone in your life?

Most of my characters are based on actual people. My Hero/Villian gets his name from Alex O’loughlin (the lead on Moonlight). Nana, Hayley and Moyra are all real people and my very special friends. I just dramatized things a tad!

4. Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Definitely not a plotter! To be honest, I have no idea where the story is going myself until I finish writing it. I usually start with a beginning, can see the ending and then wait for the voices in my head to fill in the rest. I get people asking me what is going to happen next and I have no idea!

5. Can you tell us what you’re working on right now?

I am actually working on book #3 in The Dream Series – The Man of my Dreams being book #1. The sequel is due to be released on Feb 1st at Amazon.com in Kindle and paperback. This one is titled “The Chosen One” – for obvious reasons to those lucky enough to have read an ARC copy of my 2nd book “Be Careful What You Wish For.”
